FAQ

Do I still have to pay if I miss a lesson?

Yes. Unfortunately I have to charge the full lesson rate for any missed lessons unless I receive 24 hours notice of cancellation.

Do you still teach in the school holidays?

Yes, I work all year round, unless I inform you of specific holiday dates I will always be teaching and be available for lessons. If you have a booked slot in a school holiday please assume its taking place and contact me if you have any questions.

Am I too old or young to learn to play guitar or ukulele?

As a general rule, students can start guitar lessons from approximately 8 years old. Ukulele students can start a little earlier. Please contact me directly to discuss further. I firmly believe there is no upper age limit. I’ve taught ladies and gentlemen of 80+ years old and they have made excellent progress and thoroughly enjoyed their lessons.

Do I have to read music to play guitar?

No. Although this is very helpful and an excellent skill to have, it’s not essential when learning to play the guitar. This is something I can help you with.

What do I need to bring to a lesson?

Feel free to bring your guitar and plectrum. I provide amplifiers, leads, sheet music and anything else needed.

I don’t have a guitar or ukulele, do I have to buy one before I start lessons?

No. I have left and right handed student guitars and ukulele’s here for use during lessons, free of charge.

I want to buy a guitar but I’m not sure what to get, can you help?

Yes, I am very happy to offer advice and guidance when buying guitars, amplifiers, effects pedals etc. If my diary has space I often accompany students to the guitar shop to help in person!

How should I pay for my lessons?

You can pay for your lessons either monthly in arrears based on the number of lessons you have had or one session at a time. Cash, bank transfer or via PayPal are preferred methods of payment.

My guitar needs repairing, can you help?

I regularly work on students guitar to help them get the best out of their instrument, this can be something as simple as a restring of your guitar or ukulele or something more involved like a full set up and service. Please contact me directly to discuss your requirements. Check out the ‘set up and servicing page’ for videos detailing work completed to date and testimonials.

Do you sell strings and accessories?

Yes, I carry a selection of strings for both acoustic, electric & bass guitars and ukuleles. I also stock cables, plectrums, capos etc.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, I have the full, enhanced DBS check and have worked in senior safeguarding roles in FE Education settings.

Parking & Travel To Lessons

There are a number of bus routes which serve the estate where I live. First Bus 24 and 24a services are the main options. Parking is free directly at the front of my house but please take care when driving in and out of the estate and ensure that you only park at my house.
